What Could've Been with 'Trident'...Again

A computer-generated illustration I created of the once-proposed Trident flyby mission to Neptune's moon Triton.

So this month would've marked the second and final launch opportunity for Trident—a spacecraft that would've conducted a flyby of Neptune and its main moon Triton in the late 2030s had it been approved by NASA in June 2021—to lift off from Cape Canaveral in Florida and head on its interplanetary journey to the outer Solar System and beyond.

I read somewhere that this year's launch opportunity for Trident would've began today...but I apparently misread it as the mission's Wikipedia page states that the first launch opportunity would've commenced on October 25, 2025. Oh well. Either way, Trident met none of those milestones because this spacecraft doesn't exist.

This is just another Blog entry pondering about what could've been in the realm of American space exploration.
