Six days after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved the use of upgraded COVID-19 booster shots made by Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech, I went to the local CVS Pharmacy to get a dose (my fourth by Pfizer-BioNTech since last year) of this updated vaccine a few hours ago.
As stated in the Blog entry I linked to above, this upgraded booster—known as a bivalent vaccine—contains the mRNAs of both the original coronavirus strain as well as those of its BA.4 and BA.5 omicron variants...making this the strongest form of protection against COVID-19.
It will take two weeks for this booster to take full effect...meaning that I would have to wait till after September 20 to get my annual flu shot. Yes, I'm that diligent about protecting my health from lousy viruses each year.
The COVID-19 vaccine and boosters are still free; a flu shot is not. Happy Tuesday!
