PHOTOS OF THE DAY... Today's entry goes to the USS New York (LPD-21), the U.S. Navy's newly-built "amphibious transport dock" that recently arrived at its namesake state to be commissioned into service, as well as to honor the victims of 9/11. The New York's bow contains 7.5 tons of steel salvaged from the twin World Trade Center towers. The ship will remain in the Empire State till after Veterans Day on November 11. It will then travel to Norfolk, Virginia to begin a year of military training exercises. Two sister ships will be built by the Navy to honor the 9/11 victims at the Pentagon and Pennsylvania attack sites: The Arlington (LPD-24) and Somerset (LPD-25).
