Sonia Rios...a.k.a. the Black Widow of Lomita.
THE BLACK WIDOW OF LOMITA... So at work yesterday, one of my co-workers told me this intriguing story about Sonia Rios...the so-called ‘Black Widow of Lomita’ who was featured on the CBS show 48 Hours a few days ago. Sonia Rios was a Filipina who was accused of arranging the assassinations of her two husbands (the first one in 1987 and the second one in 2006) before she herself was gunned down at her house in south Los Angeles in 2007. The way my co-worker explained it made this case sound very interesting:

A woman has her husband go to her home country (The Philippines, duh) to take care of some family matter...only to get a bullet in the head by an unknown assassin as he was lying on the couch, at home, in the middle of the night. The woman collects money (about a million dollars worth) from her dead husband’s insurance policy. Years later, the woman marries again. And again, she has her second husband go to her motherland to take care of some family matter...and he too gets a bullet in the head (and in the stomach), this time outside a hospital at night. However, a sibling of the second husband figures that it’s Rios who was behind her brother’s killing, and gets Rios’ insurance company to freeze payment to her before she collects on it. Rios is royally screwed over, since she apparently can’t pay off the person (or persons) who carried out the hit, and she too gets a bullet in the head a year later. The end.

Javier Bardem as Anton Chigurh in NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN.

Of course, my co-worker made it sound like Rios hired some guy like Anton Chigurh from the film No Country for Old Men to carry out the assassinations, when it was most likely Sonia’s family members in the Philippines who capped her two husbands (Sonia allegedly got her family members to stop the criminal investigation by bribing the police). Still, what an amusing tale (unless, of course, you happen to be related to any of her two husbands)... If this isn’t a perfect example of an evil biyatch getting her comeuppance, I don’t know what is. Someone should make a movie on this story. For the role of the ‘Black Widow’, might I suggest...um, Angelica Pamintuan? Or how ‘bout Joyce Jimenez? Just sayin’.

Angelica Pamintuan and Joyce Jimenez.

Oh, and on a more personal standpoint, this supports my long-held point of view that most Pinays are evil. It’s all about hot blonde Norwegian chicks, yo.
