PREDATORS... I saw the movie last Saturday, and thought it was a pretty satisfying film. I haven’t seen any of the other sequels (particularly the Alien vs. Predator installments), but I thought this one was as intense as the 1987 original. Speaking of the original, I initially thought that the girl in the newest film was suppose to be the same chick that Arnold Schwarzenegger saved in Guatemala in Predator, which wouldn’t have made sense...considering the girl in the first movie was named Anna and Alice Braga’s character in the newest flick is named Isabelle. Obviously, this is another girl who came from the village that was attacked by the Predator in the original movie. Obviously.
Speaking of Schwarzenegger, is it just me but Adrien Brody did a better job ass-whupping a Predator in this flick than Ah-nold did in the first one? Ah-nold relied mainly on booby traps to try to defeat his alien stalker, while Brody pretty much went all Last of the Mohicans on his hunter in this one. Oh well. Brody was cool in this movie nevertheless. Special FX-wise, the Predators looked totally awesome both masked and unmasked. 23 years have passed by since the first film came out in theaters, and this "ugly motherf**ker" still looks as menacing as ever. Nice.
I’ve been too lazy to post separate reviews for these films, but I also saw M. Knight Shyamalan's The Last Airbender and Adam Sandler's Grown Ups last week. The acting by all the kids in The Last Airbender was EXTREMELY HORRIBLE, and yet I wouldn’t mind watching the sequel (if there is one) since the first movie actually ended on an interesting note. Yes, I’d only watch the sequel FOR FREE...just like I did with this one. Jaden Smith deserves an Oscar for his performance in The Karate Kid compared to the Jake Lloyd-from-The Phantom Menace-type acting by the kids in Shyamalan’s newest film. Good grief.
The saving grace for Grown Ups was the two hot girls who played Rob Schneider’s daughters in the movie: Madison Riley and Jamie Chung. I haven’t seen the live-action Dragonball flick that came out last year (which is a good thing... This movie obviously looked like it didn’t do justice to the awesome Japanese anime series that aired on the Cartoon Network 10 years ago), but I’m pretty sure Ms. Chung didn’t look as hot in Dragonball as she did in the Adam Sandler movie. Cot damn!
