DESPITE THE FACT Kaguya will meet its fiery end by crashing onto the Moon's surface around June 10 (after completing an almost 2-year mission mapping the lunar surface), just thought I'd share these photos of the two metal sheets containing around 413,000 names and messages that were installed onto the spacecraft. These names and messages were submitted as part of the Japanese Space Agency's (JAXA) "Wish Upon the Moon" campaign that took place via the Internet and snail mail between December of 2006 and February of '07.

In other news, this June 17 will see the launch of NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter to the Moon. I'll talk more about this mission when it launches.
