Renew THE ACOLYTE...Now!

Darth Plagueis lurks in the shadows in Episode 8 of THE ACOLYTE, titled 'The Acolyte.'

So a few hours ago, I watched the season finale of The Acolyte on Disney+...and all I can say is— Screw the haters. Renew The Acolyte for a second season immediately!

After viewing Episode 8, titled "The Acolyte," it made me that much eager to see the story of Osha (Amandla Stenberg) continue as (SPOILERS AHEAD) her journey down the path of the Dark Side quickly unfolded once she killed her former Jedi mentor, Master Sol (Lee Jung-jae), upon finding out that he murdered her mother on Brendok 16 years earlier. I want to see what awaits Osha and her cortosis-welding teacher Qimir (Manny Jacinto) after the would-be Sith spared the life of Mae (also played by Stenberg) in exchange for her sister Osha becoming his apprentice instead.

And of course, as shown in the screenshot at the top of this Blog entry, I want to see how Darth Plagueis plays a role in the future trials and tribulations of Qimir and Osha. I expected Darth Tenebrous to show up in tonight's finale instead (I definitely wouldn't be surprised if he made an appearance in Season 2), but it's still awesome that Darth Sidious' former master appeared in this Star Wars streaming series.

And let's not forget the final scene of today's episode...with Vernestra Rwoh (Rebecca Henderson) meeting a certain green-eared Jedi Master at the Jedi Temple to seek his counsel following the discovery that her former Padawan was still alive after being seduced by the Dark Side of the Force a long time ago. That Padawan, of course, being none other than Qimir.

So yea— If Lucasfilm wants to politely give all the haters the middle finger for review-bombing The Acolyte, Season 1 on Rotten Tomatoes and other sites, as well as continuing the story of Qimir and Osha and revealing how Plagueis and Yoda factor into their tale, then giving The Acolyte at least one more season is the way to go!

We've seen the Old Republic in the Star Wars prequels, the reign of the Galactic Empire in Solo, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Andor, Rogue One and the original Star Wars trilogy, and the New Republic in the Star Wars sequel trilogy (as well as in The Mandalorian and Ahsoka)... Let's see more of the High Republic in live-action through the eyes of creator Leslye Headland!

The Dark Side also continues to beckon.

Master Sol (Lee Jung-jae) once again clashes with Qimir (Manny Jacinto) in Episode 8 of THE ACOLYTE, titled 'The Acolyte.'

Osha (Amandla Stenberg) watches as the blade on her lightsaber - which previously belonged to Master Sol before she killed him - turns red after bleeding its kyber crystal in Episode 8 of THE ACOLYTE, titled 'The Acolyte.'

Vernestra Rwoh (Rebecca Henderson) seeks the counsel of Master Yoda at the Jedi Temple in Episode 8 of THE ACOLYTE, titled 'The Acolyte.'

Images of the Day: Screenshots from AHSOKA...

On the planet Peridea, Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen) confronts Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) for the first time...in Episode 6 of AHSOKA.

With the 8-episode run of the Star Wars Disney+ series Ahsoka now complete as of today, just thought I'd post these random screenshots from some of the chapters in this exciting show!

It's so awesome that Grand Admiral Thrawn, who I first heard about from Timothy Zahn's Heir to the Empire book trilogy (which I read in 9th grade back in 1995), has finally been realized in live-action by Lars Mikkelsen (the brother of Rogue One's Mads Mikkelsen)! Well done.

I never watched the animated series Star Wars Rebels so I'm fairly indifferent to Ezra Bridger (Eman Esfandi) returning to his home galaxy, heh. But I can't wait to see what's in store for him, Thrawn, Hera Syndulla (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo), Shin Hati (Ivanna Sahkno), Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen...showing how awesome he plays the role when he isn't given clunky dialogue like in the prequels) and of course, Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson) herself in the next Jon Favreau/Dave Filoni Star Wars project!

Rest In Peace to Ray Stevenson, who was awesome as Baylan Skoll. Carry on.

The New Republic fleet orbits the capital world of Coruscant in AHSOKA.

In the World Between Worlds, Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson) confronts Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen) in Episode 4 of AHSOKA.

Anakin Skywalker confronts a young Ahsoka Tano (Ariana Greenblatt) in Episode 5 of AHSOKA.

During a Senate hearing on Coruscant, Hera Syndulla (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) is aided by C-3PO (Anthony Daniels) in Episode 7 of AHSOKA.

Now stranded on Peridea after Grand Admiral Thrawn makes his escape back to their home galaxy, Ahsoka Tano and Sabine Wren are watched over by the Force ghost of Anakin Skywalker in the season finale of AHSOKA.

On This Day in 2001: IMPORT_JEDI Is Born...

Today marks 20 years since my account for the Jedi Council Forums, IMPORT_JEDI, was created.
So today marks two decades since I created my Import_Jedi account for the Jedi Council Forums on the Star Wars fan site, TheForce.net.

I've actually been browsing the JC Forums since early 1999 (before The Phantom Menace was released in theaters...which was near the end of my first year of college at Cal State Long Beach), but Import_Jedi was born 13 days after Lucasfilm revealed that the official title for Star Wars: Episode II would be Attack of the Clones.

I've been going on the JC Forums regularly till after Revenge of the Sith came out in 2005—and then it was only sporadically that I would frequent threads, most of which had nothing to do with Star Wars.

I started logging on a bit more around the time The Force Awakens and Rogue One were theatrically released almost six and five years ago, respectively (but not as much for 2017's The Last Jedi, and not at all for 2018's Solo and 2019's The Rise of Skywalker), but other than that, I only visit the JC Forums if I'm feeling extremely nostalgic about my good ol' college days.

Click here to view the list of friends that I made on the JC Forums during my 20-year tenure—though I don't know how many of them still go to this message board. I miss the 3SA Sarcasm Knights! Happy Friday.

The 3SA Sarcasm Knights were awesome.

Artwork of the Day: Wrath of the Dark Trooper...

My drawing of a Dark Trooper from the STAR WARS: DARK FORCES video game.

Contrary to what I wrote in this previous Blog entry, it isn't the Gundam Epyon that I drew after illustrating Valak from the 2018 horror flick The Nun, but a Dark Trooper from the 1995 Star Wars video game, Dark Forces. It was the ad below that got me to become a Star Wars fan 25 years ago (when I was in my second semester in 9th grade). This was because I initially thought that this was a character from the Star Wars prequels—which, of course, wouldn't start hitting theaters for another four years. The cool design of this Imperial villain captured my imagination, and it wouldn't be till 1997 (when I was a junior in high school) that I played against this antagonist on Dark Forces when it became available for Sony Playstation (which my family originally had; but I have no idea what happened to it). This Dark Trooper was the final boss in the game, and he was pretty easy to defeat, hah!

I originally tried to draw this artwork over a decade ago, but I found it a bit challenging coloring-wise (using Crayola markers to emulate a painting is pretty tricky work) so I abandoned the effort. Leave it to staying at home during the coronavirus pandemic to give me motivation to try drawing the Dark Trooper again! Anyways, next up: the Gundam Epyon. No seriously!

A Random Thought To End This Month With...

Futuristic cars fly through the city of Los Angeles in BLADE RUNNER 2049.

Why are flying cars a DUMB IDEA? If people are generally too stupid or incapable of using their turn signals when changing lanes on the ground, what makes you think they'll be capable of safely flying a 2-ton machine hundreds to thousands of feet in the air?

That's my random thought for November. And no, I didn't type this entry as an excuse to post the cool screenshot from Blade Runner 2049 above, or an image of the Star Wars planet Coruscant below. I actually mean it. Speaking of Star Wars, The Last Jedi arrives in theaters two weeks from today! Can't wait to go to an advance screening of Episode VIII at 7 PM on December 14. Carry on.

Star Wars Celebration...

Kylo Ren's outfit from THE FORCE AWAKENS on display at the Star Wars Celebration in Anaheim, California...on April 17, 2015.

So last Thursday and Friday, I drove down to the Anaheim Convention Center to attend the latest Star Wars Celebration. The main event (which I missed since I didn't pick my badge up early enough to join the line on Wednesday evening; instead, I watched the panel via simulcast in a separate showroom at the convention center) was the morning panel devoted to The Force Awakens on Thursday. During this presentation, director J.J. Abrams and Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy unveiled the newest trailer for Star Wars: Episode VII...plus introduced the film's three main stars, Oscar Isaac, Daisy Ridley and John Boyega, onto the stage to divulge details about their characters for the very first time. Several minutes later, the cast of the Original Trilogy—Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Anthony Daniels and Peter Mayhew (Harrison Ford couldn't make it since he was still recovering from that plane crash last month)—appeared on stage to thank the fans for their 35-plus-year devotion to the science fantasy franchise.

Originally, I was only going to attend the Celebration on Thursday, but I went back on Friday to visit the costume and prop exhibit devoted to The Force Awakens. I spent much of Thursday looking for this exhibit (it was on the 2nd floor of the convention center), and by the time I found it later that evening, the line to get into the showroom was cut off since the exhibit was closing for the day. But that's okay... It was another $65 (plus $10 for parking at Angel Stadium; I had to take a shuttle to the convention center on both days) well-spent. Here are several photos from my two days in Star Wars nerdvana.

Another Star Wars-Related Entry, Yo...

My fan logo for STAR WARS: EPISODE VII - EMPIRE OF RUIN.

Based on the rumors that I've read online, I'm convinced that a good title for Star Wars: Episode VII would be Empire of Ruin. The Empire still exists in the Galaxy 30 years after the events of Return of the Jedi (as proven with updated Stormtrooper helmets that leaked on the Web a while ago), and there is talk online that a possible villain for the J.J. Abrams-directed flick may be a Sith (Lord or Inquisitor?) named Darth Ruin. The Empire still alive and kicking + Darth Ruin running the show = Empire of Ruin. Also, this simple name is consistent with the three-worded monikers of The Phantom Menace and A New Hope that completed the titles for Episodes I and IV, respectively. Carry on.

Ray Park Would Be Proud...

Check out this awesome fan-made Star Wars video that was the winning entry in the 10th annual Lightsaber Choreography Competition last year. All I can say is, I need to buy Adobe After Effects. That, and get a hold of Ben Burtt's awesome lightsaber sound effects and obviously actors who are as skilled at stick fighting as the folks seen in this YouTube clip. I wouldn't be surprised if J.J. Abrams or his fight coordinator for Star Wars: Episode VII stumbled upon this video and cast these dudes as Jedi Knights (or Sith Lords) in the 2015 flick... They would deserve it.

And is that Marilyn Manson playing in the background? Even more bad-ass.

Artwork of the Day... With recent news that everyone's favorite bounty hunter (no, not Jamie Foxx's Django...or Attack of the Clones' Jango) might be getting his own Star Wars spin-off film, here's a cool illustration that I just stumbled upon showing Boba Fett rocketing out of the Sarlacc Pitt following the events of Return of the Jedi (ROTJ). Of course— Boba escaping from Tatooine's desert vagina (yea, I said that out loud) and Darth Maul coming back from the dead in The Clone Wars animated series after being sliced-and-diced by Obi-Wan in The Phantom Menace reeks of Expanded Universe lameness...but if the Boba movie does show a quick shot of the Mandalorian flying away from the Great Pit of Carkoon (RE: Sarlacc), I won't mind. Presumably, this scene would take place at either the beginning or end of the film, but it would remain to be seen if Lawrence Kasdan's screenplay recaps events of ROTJ (even though this solo flick is supposedly set to take place between The Empire Strikes Back and ROTJ; Shadows of the Empire be damned) that led to Boba almost being slowly digested for a thousand years within the desert vagina. Or...this scene will play out without any explanation and make an assumption that everyone in the audience saw ROTJ beforehand. Much to ponder about, we have. (FYI, I'm indifferent to Yoda having his own movie.)

Thanks to Disney, we just might see Luke Skywalker re-visiting his home world of Tatooine in the STAR WARS sequel trilogy. Awesome.

Image of the Day... Just thought I'd share this iconic, Disney-fied shot from Star Wars: A New Hope, in anticipation of the fact that more movies about that Galaxy far, far away will be coming to a theater near you starting in 2015! In the past, I didn't become extremely obsessed about a new Star Wars flick till its title was officially revealed...which is usually almost a year before the film is released. (The Phantom Menace—I believe—had its title revealed to the public in September of 1998, Attack of the Clones was announced in August of 2001, and Revenge of the Sith was unveiled in July of 2004.)

With George Lucas most likely not helming any of the installments to the new trilogy, however, my excitement might start much earlier...as the prospect of awesome filmmakers like David Fincher, J.J. Abrams, Guillermo del Toro and (holy cow) Christopher Nolan directing Episodes VII, VIII and/or IX show up on the rumor mill. In the meantime, I'll kill time as additional news about the sequel trilogy leak out by once again listening to John Williams' amazing music score from the six current Star Wars movies on my MP3 player. Later.

A LEGO® tow truck: Cool.

Stupid Things I Used To Like When I Was A Kid... Happy Halloween, everyone! Just thought I'd post a long-planned journal entry ranting about things I thought were cool back when I was young, but now I just despise them for causing total inconveniences in my adult life. How many of you think that certain things that you liked when you were a kid are now lame? Whether it's a music group whose songs had a cool beat when you were 11 but now think sound pretty cheesy (like those of um, New Kids On The Block). Or a movie classic that you watched half a dozen times on VHS when you were 8 but now find totally corny and badly-acted [like The Goonies (yea, you heard me)...and for people born in the early '90's, flicks like The Phantom Menace]? Or an old cartoon that you found action-packed when you were little but now ridicule because of its formulaic episodes and crappy animation (like Voltron)? Well, I'm discussing none of those here. Instead, I'm ranting about things that most likely only other dudes can relate to when they were kids: automobiles. Or specifically, diesel-powered vehicles...like trucks, buses and trains. Read on.

A REAL Peterbilt truck: Not cool. Unless it's Optimus Prime.

For those of you who have driver's licenses and commute almost everyday, you've probably experienced lots of moments where you were frustrated because scores of big rig trucks were clogging up lanes on the freeway (particularly the 5, 60 and 605 freeways if you live here in Southern California). Back when I was a kid, I used to love trucks. I liked building them out of LEGO®, and even daydreamed about buying my own Peterbilt (yep, the same truck used for Optimus Prime in Michael Bay's Transformers movies...though I didn't know that it was called Peterbilt back when I was 10) when I was older. Just something about these vehicles and how they dwarfed regular cars with their multiple oversize tires and loud roaring engines intrigued me. Now, these trucks just piss the hell out of me because they're slow, I have to roll up my window so their diesel fumes won't get into my car and have to occasionally dodge fragments of shredded truck tires on the freeway when I'm commuting somewhere. Screw you, trucks.

Buses of any kind: Not cool. Even the ones that run on hybrid electric power like the bus pictured here.

Another stupid thing I used to like when I was young is the bus...for the same reason why I naively liked trucks. Not only because buses are also bigger than cars and have large tires, but also because of their design (Woohoo, they're rectangular!) and the fact they can carry dozens of people aboard interested me as well (just because). Now, I find buses even more of an annoyance on the road than big rig trucks do. I'm sure that most of you fellow drivers agree with me: You're driving on the right-most lane of a city street (particularly a street in a major metropolitan area like Los Angeles), and all of a sudden you come across a bus that's still idling at a bus stop waiting for more passengers to board. You're unable to change lanes because there is too much traffic on the lane to the left of you, so you have to wait impatiently for the bus to finally depart from its stop, or more frustratingly, wait for the traffic signal to turn green so that the bus can drive away. Buses that I truly hate are the outdated school buses that have their tailpipe right at their rear bumper...facing a vehicle that's directly behind them. Smelling the stench of carbon monoxide from a Honda Civic cruising in front of me is one thing (I'm not sniffing on purpose, of course), but to see a black cloud of diesel smoke billow out from the ass of a yellow, crappy-looking behemoth as it drives off after stopping at an intersection? Apparently, the fools who designed these buses have never heard of lung cancer before. God, I hate public transportation.

A classic LEGO® train set: Cool.

And last, and just as least, is the one major inconvenience that most normal dudes liked when they were boys: trains. Like trucks, I wanted to build a train out of LEGO when I was young, but my folks never bought me the train set. I found the design of Union Pacific locomotives to be very intriguing...with all of its large metal wheels and the fact locomotives dwarfed not just cars but trucks and some buses as well. Trains, when I was 10, were the epitome of diesel-powered coolness. Now I just want to blow all of them up (Just kidding, Department of Homeland Security! Good ol' freedom of speech...). Seriously though, I'm sure every other driver can agree with me when I say I've lost countless hours of my life waiting at railroad crossings for freight trains, Amtraks and even Metrolinks to pass by. The idea that Union Pacific would add at least one mile worth of container cars to a freight train pisses me off. It may be convenient in terms of obviously moving as many goods as possible in one trip around the country, but trains are one of the reasons why people are late to work in the morning or get home late at night, and why road rage exists. For me, at least.

A REAL train: Not cool.

So the gist of this entry is that diesel-powered land vehicles suck ass. That, and people can like the dumbest things when they're kids. Having to deal with trucks, buses and trains is just something that all drivers have to deal with however...unless, of course, you live in New York City (which I'm glad I don't—at the current moment, at least). 'Cause then you'll just have hundreds of taxis (and buses, darn it) to piss you off on the road. And for those of you angry at me for criticizing The Goonies at the start of this entry, buck up. I shouldn't have included The Phantom Menace with it in the same paragraph, though...seeing as how I'm sure even young kids (maybe not little toddlers) thought the idea of Jar Jar Binks was repulsive. Carry on.

Sloth: As cool as THE GOONIES is flawed.

A STAR WARS: THE PHANTOM MENACE marquee at my local AMC theater.

Nerdgasm... In honor of Darth Maul returning to the big screen (in 3-D) next month, just thought I'd post these random Star Wars-related images that I recently took with my camera phone. The Phantom Menace cardboard marquee posted above was on display at the AMC theater inside my local mall, while the two cool LEGO® sets shown below were found at the nearby Toys"R"Us store. Despite the fact I didn't become a Star Wars geek till um, 9th grade, I'm pretty sure I would've bothered my folks into getting the Republic Cruiser and/or Millennium Falcon (which are both almost 2-feet-long, like the Batmobile collectible I also saw at the mall last summer) for me when I was 10 years old...if these items were available 20 years ago. Whether or not they would've relented in buying me these sets is a whole other matter—especially considering the grades I got in elementary school (primarily for math) that time. Carry on.

Batman (Christian Bale) returns to movie theaters this July in THE DARK KNIGHT RISES.

Happy New Year, Everyone! 2012 looks to be an action-packed year in terms of sports, movies, politics, space exploration and—if you’re gonna buy into the hype, the end of the world. With sports, you can look forward to the XXX Olympic Summer Games taking place in London. With movies, you have huge summer blockbusters such as The Dark Knight Rises and The Avengers waiting to storm into your local theater...with Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings follow-up, Part 1 of The Hobbit, storming cinemas this winter. Oh, and don’t forget that Beauty and the Beast, Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, Titanic and Finding Nemo are returning to the multiplex as well, in 3-D. With politics, you have the U.S. presidential election taking place this November (we'll see if the slight improvements in the economy, the conclusion of the war in Iraq and last spring’s elimination of Osama bin Laden in Pakistan will send Obama back to the White House).

The retired space shuttle Endeavour will be transported to the California Science Center in Los Angeles for permanent public display this August.

With space exploration, you have SpaceX and a few other private companies finally launching commercially-made spacecraft into Earth orbit and to the International Space Station itself. Plus, the Smithsonian’s Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center in Virginia will finally receive the retired space shuttle Discovery in April while the California Science Center (in downtown Los Angeles...30 miles from where I currently live) will get Discovery’s sister ship Endeavour, also decommissioned, this August. Taking place in August as well will hopefully be the safe and successful landing of NASA’s Curiosity rover on the surface of Mars.

An annular solar eclipse will take place over the Pacific Ocean this May.

I'm sure that all of you have things to look forward to this year as well (positive things—not Doomsday this December). Let them come to fruition. As for the Mayan calendar coming to an end on December 21: I hope it doesn't affect the box office take of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey too much...otherwise, Peter Jackson probably won’t be too thrilled. Just being facetious. That is all.
