It has now been 25 years since 2,977 innocent people were killed by 19 terrorists on one of the darkest days in America's history. We continue to honor them...even as the United States faces new kinds of challenges and threats, most of them homegrown, to our 250-year-old democracy today.
The World Trade Centers fell... The Pentagon was damaged... 40 souls (not including the four cowardly hijackers on that flight) were lost in a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. But heroes emerged at all three sites of tragedy on that fateful day in 2001.
